"It was in September 2006 that the duo decided to organize a fest during Pongal, centered around the art forms which reflect the shared socio-cultural experiences of the people of Tamil Nadu. But, they also wanted a cosmopolitan character to it to attract people in Chenani. The result of the fusion of ideas was Chennai Sangamam.Chennai Sangamam 2010 begins Proving their initial apprehensions wrong, the first edition of Chennai Sangamam, rolled out on February 21, 2008 was an instant hit. It brought the fore the longing of the urban people to reconnect with their rural roots and showed the long-wait of the people for a festival that brought arts closer to their homes and lives. For many, it was a sheer nostalgic event that brought back memories of their old village festivals. For the younger generation, it was a revelation as to how electrifying and enthralling the folk rhythms and presentation can get.The highlight of Chennai Sangamam is its venue. Much in contrast to a lot other festivals that are held in closed halls and auditoriums, this folk festival is held in open parks, beaches and streets. This inspiration was derived from the Bangaluru Habba celebrations. The State government’s Department of Tourism & Culture-Govt also lent the requisite support for the success of the festival. The enduring symbol of Chennai Sangamam - the calf-head logo was the creation of artist Maruthu. However, the food festivals, which are the key highlight of Chennai Sangamam, was introduced only in its second edition in 2008. With the active participation of Mahadevan, Chairman, Oriental Cuisines Pvt.Ltd and the South India Culinary Association under the leadership of Chef Sounderrajan, the food festivals were an instant hit and enhanced the popular appeal of Chennai Sangamam. Not wishing to forget the rich tradition of classical carnatic music of the state, the festival also brought classical music to the open with the help of top line carnatic classical artists. This year’s Chennai Sangamam was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi on January 10, 2010 at Island Grounds, Chennai. The complete list of events of Chennai Sangamam 2010SEARCH     All about: Chennai Sangamam 2010, Chennai Comments |  Print  |  Share |  Rate  More Headlines"

Independent film making

An independent film, or indie film, is usually a low-budget film that is produced by a small movie studio. Additionally, the term is used to describe less commercially-driven art films which differ markedly from the norms of plot-driven, mainstream classical Hollywood cinema. These films are often produced by subsidiaries of larger studios, such as Sony Pictures Classics, as long as less than half of its budget comes from a major movie studio. In 2005, about 15% of the U.S. domestic box office revenue was from independent studios.[1] Independent films are often distinguishable by their content or style. The writer or director's original authorial intent or personal creative vision is usually maintained in the final film.
The independent film scene's development in the 1990s and 2000s has been stimulated by a range of factors, including the development of affordable high-definition digital video cameras that can rival 35 mm film quality and easy-to-use computer editing software and the increasing visibility of independent film festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival.

what is cinema ?

The cinema is the love, the meeting, the love of ourselves and of life, the love of ourselves on earth, it's a very evangelical matter, and it's not by chance that the white screen is like a canvas.

--Jean-Luc Godard

The cinema is not a craft. It is an art. It does not mean teamwork. One is always alone on the set as before a blank page.
